After Austin (relegated to Class 4A) and Rochester Mayo (elevated to Class 6A) were barely reclassified in opposite directions , Section 1-5A was left with just four teams following the MSHSL’S recent bi-annual reclassification summit on April.

After about a week of speculation, the answer to which program, or programs, would be shifted from neighboring sectional groups to supplement 1-5A was answered on Friday, April 7 when it was announced that New Prague would move from Section 2-5A.

The decision leaves half of the eight Class 5A postseason brackets with just five teams (Section 1, Section 2, Section 5, Section 6). Three others will enter the next two-year cycle with with six teams (Section 3, Section 7, Section 8) and one with seven (Section 4).
