The Owatonna High School Activities Department is pleased to announce Dennis Will as the new Varsity Head Coach for the Boys Hockey Program (pending school board approval).
Coach Will is no stranger to Owatonna High School hockey as he served as an assistant coach under Mas Fukushima from 1989-1991. He then took over as the Head Coach and served in that role from 1991-1998. During that time he guided Owatonna to two Big Nine Championships in 1992 and 1993 and two Section runner-ups in 1992 and 1993. In 1998, the Huskies won their first Section Championship, earning a trip to the Boys State Hockey Tournament.
Dennis Will is a lifelong hockey player and coach. Growing up in Superior Wisconsin, he won a pair of state titles at Superior High School and was a three-time AlI-State player. He then went on to play for the University of Wisconsin Badgers as a defenseman for the Badgers. After his tenure with Owatonna hockey, Coach Will spent time in the Northfield youth hockey association coaching at various levels.
“We are excited to have Coach Will taking over as our next head boys hockey coach at Owatonna High School. Coach Will brings a tremendous amount of hockey experience, knowledge and the ability to run a great high school program. Dennis already has great rapport with our student-athletes and we know he will be a great mentor on the ice as he is in the classroom,” said Owatonna Activities Director Marc Achterkirch.
Dennis has been a Life Science teacher at Owatonna High School for the past 34 years.
Dennis and his wife Tania have three children Rachel, Sarah and Ryan.
